Google has initiated significant layoffs across its various teams, including the voice assistant, hardware, engineering and ad sales teams, marking a continuation of the tech. In an open letter published by google and alphabet ceo sundar pichai said that the company had “hired for a different economic reality” than what it’s up against today.

In september 2022, pichai set a goal for the company to become 20 per cent more efficient. The cuts continue a trend of tech layoffs, after large companies such as google, meta and amazon laid off thousands of workers last year.
